Evaly CEO (CEO) said. Russell and his wife Shamima Nasrin, chairman of the organization, have been arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). They were arrested after raiding their house in Mohammadpur on Thursday afternoon. Russell was arrested at 5:20 pm and taken to RAB headquarters.
Lieutenant Colonel Khairul Islam, director of the RAB’s intelligence branch, confirmed the arrest. He said the RAB is being taken to the headquarters. Details will be announced at a press conference tomorrow.
Earlier on Wednesday, Evali CEO. A customer has filed a fraud case against Russell and chairman Shamima Nasrin at Gulshan police station. Dhaka Metropolitan Police Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) said on Thursday. Asaduzzaman has confirmed the matter.
He said, a resident of Purbagram area of Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj at midnight on Wednesday. Arif Baker has filed this case. Evali MD Mohammad Russell has been made the number one accused and Chairman Shamima the number two accused in the case. Several other officials of Evali have been accused of showing anonymity.
Arif Baker mentioned in the statement of case that he had ordered goods worth Tk 3,10,596 on Evali’s online platform but did not get it within the stipulated time. Helpless, he complained of embezzlement.
According to the written complaint, Arif Baker and his friends ordered some products in May and June of this year after being attracted by the flashy advertisement of e-commerce company Evali on May 29. They pay for all product orders in full through bKash, cash and Citibank cards.
The company had promised to refund the same amount if the goods failed to be delivered within 6 to 45 working days and within the stipulated time. But as the products were not delivered within that time, the customer care representative of Evali was called many times. Arifra last tried to get the ordered products by contacting on September 5 but failed. Arif and his friends went to the Dhanmondi office of Evali on September 9 after failing to deliver Evali products and money at one stage.
In a statement, Arif said they wanted to talk to Mohammad Russell, managing director (MD) of Evali, but they got excited and shouted. At one point, Russell of Evali, who was inside the office, got excited and came out of his room, intimidated me and refused to give us goods or money. He abused us with fear and intimidation. In this we are living in terror. I have been financially and emotionally damaged by not understanding the products.
